Appliances

I learned today that the appliances I like cost too much. It's very sad.

Measurements....

...were made today, actually just tonight. Funny thing - see, you're only supposed to go to the house with an agent. In this case - our agent - when visiting a house that you still don't really own. So, we walk in and 4 seconds later she says,

"I
s it Ok if I leave? Just lock up when you're done OK?"
So she left us there. Then we found the switch for the disco ball and...well, you'll just have to see it when you come over. The rooms are a good size for the two of us, I think all of our stuff will fit. The kitchen is the big problem to solve. Right now it's planned to be demo'ed down to the studs and new floors, walls, ceilings, cabinets, appliances, electric, perhaps some rough plumbing....and maybe knock half a wall down. We'll see. I'm gonna try to use SketchUp to previs some stuff.

So now we've got our measurements and we've emboldened ourselves into doing some exploratory demo right after we close on the 21st.

First Picture

So...We're going to do a lot of work on the house. A lot of work. However, there are certain parts worth keeping. Like this on the banister.

Pretty neat. Anyone up for refinishing it? We pay well in beer (or coke!) & pizza.

The big challenge is the kitchen. Right now we're using google's SketchUp to look at layouts. I recommend the tool because it's easy to learn and use and gives nice 3D renderings which have allowed us to see what it could look like. More on that later.

It Begins....

OK - first post, first blog, first house! Lots of firsts. Pictures will follow very soon.

I signed the P&S yesterday, put my 5 % down. Closing in around 4 weeks.

This whole process was a lot less scary than I thought. What was scary was how quickly people want to loan you money. Getting into debt is really easy.

So...Purpose. Why am I blogging this experience? What experience am I blogging?

I'm blogging the home purchase, renovation, & move experience. Part for myself. Part so that everyone we know can look here and find the latest and greatest info. Not very original, yes, I know...but this is the coolest blog about a house. Ever. Really.
